I cannot get any credit. All unit compute fine in BOINC but I do not get any credit. Looking at the result page on rosetta server, I see that all units are flagged as client error. I use BOINC 5.2.13 for 5 other projects without trouble. Any idea what is happening? 9413335 7576958 3 Feb 2006 4:30:15 UTC 3 Feb 2006 7:31:53 UTC Over Client error Computing 3,208.88 4.00 --- 9381795 7523663 3 Feb 2006 0:31:54 UTC 3 Feb 2006 4:13:33 UTC Over Client error Computing 3,208.15 4.00 --- 9352326 7531427 2 Feb 2006 20:09:49 UTC 3 Feb 2006 0:31:54 UTC Over Client error Computing 2,764.19 3.44 --- 9280945 7474182 3 Feb 2006 7:31:53 UTC 10 Feb 2006 7:31:53 UTC In Progress Unknown New --- --- --- 9255975 7450598 2 Feb 2006 14:12:23 UTC 2 Feb 2006 19:41:40 UTC Over Client error Computing 3,608.43 4.49 --- 9180746 7389998 1 Feb 2006 23:01:23 UTC 2 Feb 2006 14:12:23 UTC Over Client error Computing 7,536.82 9.39 --- |

Go to the Rosetta preferences page and click "YES" for "Leave in memory when preempted". Not all Czech`s bounce but I`d like to try with Barbar ;-) Make no mistake This IS the TEDDIES TEAM. |

Make that the GENERAL Prefs page rather than the Rosetta page....you will have to forgive Carl but he does drift off now and again! ;-) |

Thank you for the info. What does this parameter do? |

It leaves it in memory when it is 'interupted'. Normally this would not be needed but the current Rosetta has a bug which can cause it to abort when it is pre-empted and removed from memory...so we leave it in. Make sure that you change the other project prefs in line otherwise if you amend one of them it becomes the latest and if not set to leave in memory it will fail Rosetta again. |

It leaves it in memory when it is 'interupted'. 'It' being being the Rosetta client/process that the boinc client starts up when a Rosetta WU needs to be crunched. |

Sorry guys but I happen to use my PC for more than BOINC and after changing the setting to keep the data in memory, my PC has sloooowed down as I am now storing all projects in memory. The PC had started to page like crazy as I am limited to 512K on this computer. I will now disconnect from the rosetta project until I learn that this bug has been fixed. Cheers, Philippe |

Philippe, what happens with "leave app in memory" is that when the project is pre-empted (paused from running by BOINC, to run another project's exe) it still consumes VIRTUAL (not from your 512MB of physical) memory. So, simply make sure your PC has sufficient VIRTUAL memory (i.e. diskspace to swap the app on harddisk), usually a setting of 2*physicalRAM or more. 512MB RAM is PLENTY. Paging is perfectly normal, it'll just happen every 60min, as it swaps current app e.g. Rosetta.exe to disk, to start the next app. Btw I've tested BOINC with just 256MB RAM and "Leave in memory" setting, running the very same 5 projects as you do, works FINE. I just made sure it had enough virtual memory (I'd use 1GB virtual). The max RAM I've seen Rosetta consume is about 90MB (+10MB for BOINC), most other projects consume much less, so your apps would still get ~400MB free RAM (minus what Win uses). PS: Only weakness I see is that your PC's CPU (1GHz) is a bit slow by today's standards, to be dividing it among 5-6 projects.
