I have 1.5 GB of unused ram......even while running Rosetta......when will larger wu's requiring more ram be dispersed? When we start distributing vaccine design calculations, these will require more memory. CASP7 is coming up first though. there may be some larger proteins where more memory is required. |

I have 1.5 GB of unused ram......even while running Rosetta......when will larger wu's requiring more ram be dispersed? I hope these different types of WU's will only be sent to machines with adequate memory? Founder of BOINC GROUP - Objectivists - Philosophically minded rational data crunchers. |

The project is designed to run in 512Mb or less to allow systems of that configuration to run the project. I thought you had adamantly stated earlier (I'm sure I remember this...) that 512MB was the MINIMUM configuration - has this changed now? The project is designed to run in 512Mb or less to allow systems of that configuration to run the project. No. See this page. Moderator9 ROSETTA@home FAQ Moderator Contact |

So - is it 512MB or less, or 512MB or more (which is what "minimum' means)? Since you appear to speak for the project, perhaps you could clarify this. So - is it 512MB or less, or 512MB or more (which is what "minimum' means)? This page speaks for the project. It says "minimum requirements". The question here was, would WUs be made to use more memory. Everyone read the answer as indicating that increasing the memory would exclude more systems from running the project. I am truly sorry if this complicated concept continues to confuse you so I have provided the link to the proper information for you again. Moderator9 ROSETTA@home FAQ Moderator Contact |

The only confusion was about your statement that Rosetta would run in "512MB or less", when the obvious project minimum requirements were 512MB. That statement would mis-lead people into thinking that less than 512MB would be fine for running the project. Proudly Banned from Predictator@Home and now Cosmology@home as well. That statement would mis-lead people into thinking that less than 512MB would be fine for running the project. Well at least we finally agree that 512 is the minium supported memory configuration, and that systems with less may have problems running the project. Thank you for your assistance in clearing this up. Moderator9 ROSETTA@home FAQ Moderator Contact |

2 of my machines use 256 RAM and rarely have an error. I don't know if that is unusual or not. If it's not unusual I hope that fact is made clear to most new users. Founder of BOINC GROUP - Objectivists - Philosophically minded rational data crunchers. |

Systems with less than the supported 512Mb of memory do run the project as you have said. But there is a much higher error rate on them than systems with more memory. It is possible that this is the result of keeping applications in memory, which was suggested for Rosetta. This restraint is about to be fixed and that may change the dynamic some. In any case, examination of the errors would indicate that more memory is better. Moderator9 ROSETTA@home FAQ Moderator Contact |
