Hi I'm trying to merge my newly installed PC with an old one but I don't get the option to merge the two, I can only merge my new one with my work PC. Might it have something to do with them being named the same? Thanks |

The only time you need to merge a computer is when boinc makes a mistake for some reason and identifies ONE of your machines to actually be TWO different machines. You can't merge two machines that are actually different. Is this what you were describing? Founder of BOINC GROUP - Objectivists - Philosophically minded rational data crunchers. |

You can't merge two machines that are actually different. Is this what you were describing? Not entirely true, I accidently merged 2 of my quad Opterons and it did not complain one bit. This is a hazard of having everything identical except the hostname. When I did this BTW is add the RAC numbers together producing a very high RAC in that ratings. The platforms are now producing seperately but the RAC on the one is going to take a while to drop back to normal. |

"Is this what you were describing?" - Yes... Ok, so the best thing is to leave it as it is then. Thanks! |

It seems this thread served its purpose and I didn't want to ask a new question in a new thread. Has anyone noticed whether or not the team members pages under 'your account' isn't being updated? I'm just curious because one or two people joined my team for Rosetta these past few days and they still don't show any credits. The last I spoke with them they were crunching away but that was a few days ago. Most of my team is over in SETI and not here yet. If there is some sort of delay in the database for updating this statistic then it would be nice to know before the 'tell a friend' feature is operational. Thanks. It seems this thread served its purpose and I didn't want to ask a new question in a new thread. This is your team: https://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/team_display.php?teamid=1219 It says: Members (with AND without Credit) 3 So have your friends got any credit yet? They won't show up on your team page before they have got credit. So, even they have crunched WU's, have they reported them and had them validated? Maybe your friends' WU's have been validated invalid or crashed because of they haven't set the WU's to stay in memory while preempted, which makes the WU's crash? I don't know, but these points can explain why your friends haven't got credit yet, so they'll show up on the teampage. Hope this answers your question. Happy crunching and good luck with your team. :-) "I'm trying to maintain a shred of dignity in this world." - Me |

That is possible however my curiosity was piqued when they failed to show valid results on team page after crunching for many hours for days. Of course, I cannot see their machines. If it were to be a problem I was interested if there was a DELAY in the team update page before I sent out an email to the other 47 members of the team encouraging them to join Rosetta. I don't think there is. I've seen people show up on the teampages only a few minutes after they've joined a team. But why are their computers hidden? There're nothing to risk by having it shown, no personal info are shown. And it actually prevents other people from helping out, when people have their computers hidden. E.g. with your friends, where, if we could see their computers, we would be able to tell if they have problems with crashed WU's, why they crash, and also see what can be done to help them out. But can't you go to their accounts and see if they have credits? You must know their usernames, so you can search them. "I'm trying to maintain a shred of dignity in this world." - Me |

Fuzzy Noodles, I am not aware of whether or not the computers of these new sers are hidden or not. Once my idea of the 'tell a friend' is implemented then I will let you know.... I was curious if there was a delay in the update page. Founder of BOINC GROUP - Objectivists - Philosophically minded rational data crunchers. |

Many thanks :D I know this function has little correlation with the science we (cool... I can say "we" and actually mean it...) do @home for Rosetta, but I feel better getting those old ghosts cleaned up. Kudos to all the programmers and administrators who devoted time and sweat (whether metaphorical or real) to re-enabling this function. We now return to our 24/7 crunching for the best BOINC project :p Rosie, Rosie, she's our gal, If she can't do it, no one shall! |
