Is there a way of disabling the screensaver for this project only? as it seems unstable on this computer (182163). I like to be able to see what my computer's working on for the 5 mins my screensaver's on so don't want to disable the BOINC ss entirely just disable the rosetta one. |

I think that BOINC will display the screen saver for any program that has graphics. But the actual graphics are part of the application. So if you turn on eht screen saver it is an all or nothing kind of thing. At least on the Mac there does not seem to be any separate file for each applications screen saver function, just the Boinc screen saver. But maybe one of the windose guys has a different take on it. No, you can't disable the screensaver for just one project, if you use BOINC as your screensaver. I have set my screensaver to none, as the crunching is much faster because the screensaver takes processor power away from the crunching. If you want to see the graphics to your projects, you can always click on the "Show Graphic" button on the WU, you're running, and then close it again, when you want. I use this button to see, if there's anything wrong with the WU, specially when I run a WU that shows a very slow progress, and when I've seen it's alive and well, I just close the window again. Happy crunching. :-) "I'm trying to maintain a shred of dignity in this world." - Me |

True, but there's a nice option in the BOINC screensaver on Windows that lets you set how long it displays the graphics for before switching to a blank screen. (This is different to the power saving settings which just turn the monitor off and don't stop the screensaver.) I tend to have my PC screensaver setup so it will display the BOINC graphics for 10 minutes or so then it goes to a blank screen. At least this way I still get to see the graphics if I'm nearby, but don't waste loads of CPU time if I'm not coming back to the PC for some time. |

I couldn't believe I'd make the same mistake twice! But in this case, I didn't - r-mo specifically mentioned host 182163 which is running Windows Server 2003. I guess you've mixed this thread up with the other screensaver thread just like I almost did. |

Yea, you would be right about that. I guess they begin to run together after a while. I will delete my intrusions. Thanks for catching that. Moderator9 ROSETTA@home FAQ Moderator Contact |
