Hello, we are all jumping through obstacles to put everything we possibly can, to work for Rosetta@HOME, hoping to boost the research against COVID-19. Could you please verify that COVID-19 related work units are being prioritised? Could you please give some instructions on how to decode work unit and task names like: 10v3nmgb_c10713_10mer_gb_004071_SAVE_ALL_OUT_896646_221 I have seen the short announcement about Rosetta@HOME "having recently been used" for related research, but really, some more detail about current work would be highly appreciated. It's not easy to put so much CPU power to work, and it would be preferable to avoid the trouble for non-urgent research. Thank you in advance! |

Could you please verify that COVID-19 related work units are being prioritised? You are new. I understand. They won't even tell you if their servers are working. But yes, for what it is worth, I can assure you they they are prioritizing COVID-19 work. How much a percentage it is of their overall workload is another matter. You just do them all, if you sign on. |

But yes, for what it is worth, I can assure you they they are prioritizing COVID-19 work. Compare this to how much info other projects are sharing: https://foldingforum.org/viewtopic.php?f=61&t=32463 6. How do I know that I'm working on COVID-19 related projects ? Warning: these numbers have nothing to do with Rosetta@HOME work units! |

They are better at releasing news of the results they have obtained, as in a scientific journal. So I have no doubt that the work is worthwhile. You just don't get to pick and choose, as with some projects. That probably makes sense for what they do, though it leaves a lot of unanswered questions of what is going on in real time. |

If it alleviates people's fears, all of my machines have recently obtained work units that look like 7py5zi2i_3h3_design_COVID-19_SAVE_ALL_OUT_902607 I think it's pretty clear by the name what it's for. I wouldn't worry so much over the names. Some COVID-19 related tasks were robetta jobs, which only look like rb_xx_xx_XXXXX_XXXXX_... , but you would never know. |

Good news! There has been recent activity in the Rosetta@HOME twitter: https://twitter.com/RosettaAtHome Our scientists could use YOUR help in the fight against #coronavirus. |

Could you please verify that COVID-19 related work units are being prioritised? As i said in other thread, an idea may be to use the empty server of Ralph@Home |

I can understand why many of us want to work on the Covid19 project. C19 is a big huge deal, so bad it is hard to properly describe. The fact that many of you volunteered your resources to combat this disease deserves praise and applause and my hat is off to all of you. But while C19 is the pandemic you came to fight today, these seemingly unrelated/unimportant work units may be the keys to defeating the next pandemic of the future. They may even lead to cures and treatments to diseases of today. Cancer would be a nice thing to put away among many others. You volunteered to fight the battle of the day and got involved in an ancient war as old as medicine and medical research. Be brave and stay strong because we are fighting for everybody. |

Be brave and stay strong because we are fighting for everybody. Yes, exactly. We don't know which lab will be the first to find a cure for Covid-19. But the work here will apply in many different situations. We will all need them sooner or later. |

COVID-related tasks need not necessarily be identified as such. As an example, there are a number of tasks containing foldit in their names that are testing player designs for proteins that can bind to the coronavirus spike protein. See https://fold.it/portal/blog |

Focusing all our resources on COVID-19 could possibly end this pandemic sooner, but doing so could harm other important projects focused on that larger-scale battle with serious diseases like cancer and HIV/AIDs. |

All this new computational power on R@H will help not only for Covid-19, but also to have better protocols and methods for other diseases. It's not a waste time! |

Good morning I noticed that workunit related to covid19 there are no modeling but only 4 hours of fastrelax without interventions on the structure. I'm not a scientist but what is it for? |

I wasn't speaking about Rosetta WUs. The topic of the thread is about prioritizing COVID-19 WUs over all other WUs, including from Rosetta and other BOINC projects. |

Focusing all our resources on COVID-19 could possibly end this pandemic sooner, but doing so could harm other important projects focused on that larger-scale battle with serious diseases like cancer and HIV/AIDs. Alas, poor Yoerik... (sorry, I couldn't help myself) CV19 tasks are very much the exception on Rosetta. The project, as I've always understood it, is more about better reflecting the behaviour of protein folding itself rather than solving a specific problem. The output more usually goes to projects like WCGrid who apply it to a more practical issue, like Malaria, Ebola, SARS, MERS or HIV. So running what I'll call 'Rosetta' tasks to improve them at some point means all the CV19 (and anything else) tasks will run better. It's a matter of whether CV19 tasks should run sooner with worse protocols or whether Rosetta tasks take their turn which at some point means the next CV19 tasks will run with better protocols. As such, the answer you were given is right if prioritising CV19 tasks first slows the development of Rosetta and delays the use of better CV19 tasks (and any other project) I was noticing the other day that the work done by Rosetta that contributed to Malaria, Ebola, SARS, MERS or HIV solutions has provided a major head-start on drug candidates for CV19. Everything is inter-connected. This is impossible for new users to immediately appreciate, especially given the motivation for coming here in the first place. This project has been running for 15yrs already. They know what they're doing and they couldn't fail to appreciate the urgency of the current world situation. Our job is to run all the tasks they issue, however they're put out. |

Haha Agreed. As a complete newbie, I certainly have noticed how my appreciation of this project has rapidly increased over the last few days. We're not here to play scientist, we're here to volunteer and help, by providing our spare resources. Thanks for sharing your wisdom. |

Good morning I noticed that workunit related to covid19 there are no modeling but only 4 hours of fastrelax without interventions on the structure. I'm not a scientist but what is it for? COVID-19 workunits have "design" in their names. By solving them you find amino-acid sequences for proteins of given structure, and that's why you see a static rotating model in the graphics view. The design of new protein molecules is necessary to develop a cure for SARS-CoV-2 |
