Hi

I posted the question in the title on the BOINC forum, but maybe someone here can help? I've almost always installed BOINC as a service so it starts up after an unattended reboot and is pretty secure, but it seems that isn't going to work for virtualbox tasks.

Any recommendations on how to install for auto start after a reboot, and for security?

Using a gpu won't work when installing as a service either

If BOINC is seeing VirtualBox, you should find a line like this on the event log right after BOINC starts:

15/06/2021 12:18:03 | | VirtualBox version: 6.1.22

Thanks - I can see that in the logs. It seems like the BOINC server page needs to display that along with the CPU and GPU data.

I am going to try creating a user account for BOINC to run under, which is logged in as a user session in Windows on startup. Does anyone have any tips? I'm assuming it'll require a scheduled task, plus maybe some 3rd party software like this to automatically log that user in at startup, and then lock that session so the computer goes back to the lock screen.

I don't want the computers sat idle after a reboot until someone logs in because sometimes that can be for a weekend or longer. And I don't really want BOINC running under the user's account either.

To get the Rosetta vbox tasks running, as well as GPU tasks from other projects, without having my machines sat idle after a reboot until I log in manually, I have:

* reinstalled BOINC so it is no longer running as a service
* removed the requirement for a password at the windows login screen: Start > "netplwiz" > uncheck "Users must enter a username and password..."
* installed "Auto login and lock" which automatically locks the screen immediately after the first login.

It isn't ideal but seems to work. I'll keep testing it.
