I want to tell you some good news. 1- It seems I have found the source of the problem I was having with the Wu's that kept yielding the now for me me infamous 107 errors. It was a problem/conflict of the operating system when running one of the applications that was running in my computer. The young man that is in charge of keeping my computer in order read all the debugging scripts that were generated and smiled and suggested I reinstall Windows. After the appropriate back up was done, Windows was reinstalled, the offending application(s) were reinstalled or replaced (one of them was the anti virus that was replaced by another) and Boinc Manager was reinstalled in such a way, it is one of the few programs in my start bar. He also added a beater maintenance application. The results of that were impressive. My computer is not only working faster and better, Rosetta is using more of the CPU than it was, so the Wu's are being processed faster. 2- On the hardware front: He checked both the Cpu fan and the heat sinks , found them in order and removed all dust accumulation. He added two additional intake fans and one exhaust fan. The computer as a result is working cooler [albeit a tad more noisy (my BPAP and Oxygen concentrator do filter the new whispers)] than before. 3- He suggested the installation of a new CPU cooling unit. Today he is bringing me the specs and price ranges of the ones he is suggesting. He made some recommendation as to improve memory and performance of my motherboard. 4- Last and indeed not least: I find the NEW BOINC MANAGER to be more efficient and to work better in my computing environment. I like the code line about the heartbeat...LOL LOL LOL and better still I like the nice rate the new units are being processed and the graphics. I have only had an aborted Wu and it had nothing to do with the BOINC Manager ( Never allow a big dog in your room when you are on the keyboard). So far so good. I am hopeful I will be able to resume computing with less hassles now To all that provided advise, suggestions and encouragement during the time I was having problems: TY A Happy Jose This and no other is the root from which a Tyrant springs; when he first appears he is a protector.†Plato |

I want to tell you some good news.... Glad to hear it! Computers can be so frustrating, they sometimes seem they have a mind of their own. Happy crunching! Regards, Bob P. |

glad you got it serviced. Keep your eye out for those errors you were seeing and hopefully that will be a thing of the past. It won't hurt to install additional cooling/change cooling method. I'm not sure it's necessary if you don't OC. The factory picked that cooling choice because it was "adequate". If you keep it cleaned out every so often it should be OK. What I'm saying is don't be suckered into spending a hundred bucks on a $100 cpu. weigh your options carefully. Remember, no matter what you choose, maintenance will be required. welcome back tony |

glad you got it serviced. Keep your eye out for those errors you were seeing and hopefully that will be a thing of the past. The last error ( an abort) was the result of a big big dog jumping on me (playing) while I was on the Boinc Manager...I hit abort. I hope the dog will not do that again. ( This is the same dog that likes to nibble on cables and power supplies). But I need to increase cooling, or make it more efficient. We are starting to get temperatures of over 90F in my town so I have to compensate for that environmental variable. ( And given the enrgy costs in my country , AC runing 24/7 in my room is out of the question.) I wont be suckered into spending a lot of money. First of all the kid in question owes me big. Lets say I am helping the statistical analysis of his Master's thesis... I gave him my last remaining license for SPSS ( I bought two when I got my SPSS) and I am also proof reading his work and he is also very into recycling stuff an finding the best price for everything. So, I expect him to find a nice CPU cooler for a reasonable price... One suggestion he made that I am going to use ASAP is installing a hepa filter to the intake "holes" of my case. See, I live in an area where small particulates in the air are a big problem. Since I have access to filters for cheap (if not for free), all it will take is cutting the pieces so they can be placed in such a way they will be easy to service or replace.. That way the amount of small particulates that enter the computer case will be reduced. My out of pocket expenses so far has been 15.00 USD. So far so good. And yes I am happy to be cruncing without problems again. This and no other is the root from which a Tyrant springs; when he first appears he is a protector.†Plato |

Well, I see three successes in a row. That's more than any of your other listed puters' results. It seems whatever he did helped. welcome back to the world of functional computers. LOL |

Even better news!!! I had a power surge that required me to reinstall/reset various programs and applications . I had to remove BOINC and reinstall it. To my utter surprise and delight. Not only had the original Wu's were saved without error. The one that was being processed had saved the 6 models/decoys and was ready to report. NO computational error: a valid WU was reported!!!!!! Since the new manager began : I have 5 completes out of 6 and the one that did not complete was the dog caused abort incident. So basically I have had 5 successes in a row. At least for me the new manager is working and working without a hitch. (Insert a very big dancing dancing emotie here.) A very happy and relieved Jose This and no other is the root from which a Tyrant springs; when he first appears he is a protector.†Plato |

Did someone say BBQ?[/quote] Hey Man: The XtremeSystem Rosetta and The Free DC Teams are engaged in a joust for number 1. The Stampede/BBQ Shindig is going to pale when compared to this one. I hope other teams do challenge each other. Is good for production and is good for science. And it is FUN!!! Jose very glad to hear you're a happy, dog-lovin', Rosetta crunchin' man! We all know you've had a long road to travel to discover your PC actually had some "issues" ...but now that you aren't the poster-child for WU errors anymore... we're going to need a new nickname for you... something other than "Grill Master" :) Perhaps they could name a BOINC button after you... call it the "watchdog abort". Add this signature to your EMail: Running Microsoft's "System Idle Process" will never help cure cancer, AIDS nor Alzheimer's. But running Rosetta@home just might! https://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/ |
