SEATTLE - Researcher David Baker believes the key to an AIDS vaccine or a cure for cancer may be that old PC sitting under a layer of dust in your closet or the one on your desk doing little else but running a screen saver.

Yes, isn't it great! Donna has really helped get the word out. It seems many are reading and taking action. It's great to see newcomers.

I saw the article on cnn.com...
I used to have my lab computers running seti, never updated them to the boinc client. After reading the article, I have added a few computers, and will most likely put more on later.

Hi John,

great to have you on board! You will see all the folk around here is very helpful and proud to be part of such a fantastic project like Rosetta@home. :-)

There is a thread about modifying the screensaver of Rosetta such that it can display the logo of the company. May be this will change your company policy about participating in Rosetta@home.

I found distributed computing on 22 January 2002 when CNN covered the anthrax project at United Devices (Grid.org). Welcome to all newcomers!

Indirectly Rosetta made the local news here in Cleveland, OH. In there little tech segment on Fox 8 they were talking about something and had the CNN.COM page on the screen. On the CNN page was the picture of Dr. Baker & a computer running Rosetta. The image was large enough to see the graphics and the news people told the views to go to CNN to read more about whatever they were talking about.

Your probably talking about Your dusty old PC may hold the cure for cancer

Immediately after publication a massive 3500 hosts were added to the R@H project within a single day (as oppose to ~500 a day) so i guess it reached the masses.
Have a look at this very impressive chart.
