I'm also here because of the CNN article. It's nice to think my gaming rig is doing something useful when it's not playing Unreal Tournament 2004, Guild Wars, or Homeworld. ;-) Gaming rigs are usually fast as h*ll and have good memory installed, so they make excellent candidates for power crunching :D Welcome to Rosetta! Rosie, Rosie, she's our gal, If she can't do it, no one shall! |

Hello people. I too am a ex-Seti member looking for a new project for my comp. Washington is my home state so this seems like the natural choice for me. I'm looking forward to crunching for this project and contributing to science. |

My aunt recently past away due to cancer, she was only 44. I was looking for a project to contribute to since I have a considerable amount of computer hardware just collecting dust. Rosetta fits the bill. 3 machinces started crunching this morning: 1) Pentium Dual core 805 (2gb of ram and overclocked to 3.6ghz) 2) AMD Athlon XP3000+ (1gb of ram) 3) AMD Athlon XP2500+ (1gb of ram) 2 additional machines will start crunching as soon as I collect a few odds and ends to complete them. |

Well it doesn't suprise me that the Seti@Home message boards haven't run participants off before now. I crunched for them for about six months until I became frustrated with the tone of responses that I got from the politest of questions and suggestions. Infact, I dread even checking those boards. If you want to keep your blood pressure in check then I strongly suggest staying away from the SetiCafe flame board. I crunch soley for Rosetta now. |

I joined in on Monday after reading the article on CNN. I think a lot of the people joining in will be for personal reasons related to illness, and because of that they will stick it out. I lost my baby boy on January 28 of this year, two days before his sister was born. He had leukemia and a desseminated fungal disease, which by some form of a miracle and medical surpassing, he went into remission within 12 days of starting treatment, and at autopsy, showed no sign of present fungal infections. He was given a 5% chance to survive just from the fungus alone but somehow managed to stomp that out. In the end, what got him was heart failure for an unknown reason. He was 2years 2months, 18days old at the moment he left this world. I'm forever greatful to his doctors, nurses, and surgeons and am starting school on Monday to eventually become a pediactric nurse. ~Elizabeth ~Elizabeth The proud mother of the strongest baby boy to have ever lived! You'll forever be in my heart and in my soul. Enan Alexander 10 Nov 2003 - 28 Jan 2006 |

Welcome to all the new crunchers! The rosetta@home project scientists are absolutely thrilled. The timing is especially good as we're in the midst of the CASP blind trials, a truly rigorous test of the power of Rosetta@home. Back in March-April, I had pointed out to David Baker that with the rate of user increase at the time, it would take a year to double our computational power from 20 TFlops to 40 Tflops. But you've made that happen in a few months! And its definitely paying off, we're able to tackle proteins that we didn't dream were possible in January. I'm sure David will have a lot of insightful comments about this when he gets back in town next week! |

I think some thanks is also owed to certain people at the Seti project for the clever way that they have diverted some of their 'excess' computing power to other more needy DC projects. |
