As a bit of background: My wife wanted her older laptop (Win2KPro OS) to participate in Rosetta work. Noting all the cautions about overheating and laptops, I downloaded ThreadMaster and set a value for rosetta that keep the laptop temp under control. Things seemed to be working with the first two WUs against the 5.16 client (admittedly, not a large baseline of experience). 5.22 arrived, and I added limiting values for that executable. Since then I've been having trouble. ThreadMaster throttles correctly during a WU. As soon as a WU completes and another starts, ThreadMaster loses control, CPU hits 100%, laptop fan hits max speed and the outlet air temp gets beyond what I want to see. If I toggle the ThreadMaster service off and then back on again, it regains control. No changes to the registry entries are required (nor would I have expected any, since the client image name hasn't changed). Has anyone else seen this behavior? I'll ship this question off to the ThreadMaster contact link as well; just hoping the experienced crew here has already seen the problem and knows the fix. --- On a related note, after last night's maintenance work I noticed a new field for limiting CPU use on my wife's preferences information. I tried setting this, updating her client, and switching off ThreadMaster, but didn't see any CPU limiting. Do I need some update to BOINC or a yet-to-be-released Rosetta client before this value becomes operational? Thanks, Alan Roberts |

I noticed a new field for limiting CPU use on my wife's preferences information....Do I need some update to BOINC or a yet-to-be-released Rosetta client before this value becomes operational? I believe "yet-to-be-released" BOINC function is accurate. They are working to add such a feature to BOINC. BOINC controls which tasks are running and when, not the application (such as Rosetta). Sorry, can't comment on your ThreadMaster question. I haven't used it. Welcome to Rosetta! But running Rosetta@home just might! https://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/ |

I've noticed the same problem. I did go into the registry and change the parameter to the new rosetta.exe file names to the mix but it didn't make any difference. Also tried rebooting, starting and stopping both Boinc and TM to no avail. For now I have suspeneded Rosetta. Can't afford to run at 100% that long. I also have SIMAP running and it seems to work fine. |

Not sure why but things are back to normal now. I ended up trying rosetta again a few days ago and all was well. Each time I've checked it TM was throttling as it is supposed to. Not sure what was going on but I am interested to see if anyone else had this problem. |
