I apologize if this has been asked before but I honestly didn't find anything when I looked around for the answer.

Yesterday morning I changed my preferences to allow for 24 hour workunits. I assumed that this would just download bigger workunits the next time new work was retrieved. Instead, the workunit that had been running went from about 70% to 11% and then proceeded to run for another 20+ hours.

Is that normal? It was rather surprising and kind of threw me as I'm used to any changes like that only taking effect the next time new work is gotten. Thanks in advance.

Yes, if you go from a lower number to a higher number, that's the way it works. However, It brought to my mind another question, "what if you go from 24 hours to "none selected" (default 3 hours) after a WU is at 20 hours?

I would hope it would continue to finish the current model, and then finish/upload, and not just stop mid model.

It does exactly that.

Yes, normal. It's now going to crunch that WU you already had in progress for the longer time preference. You see there's really nothing specific in the WU it self that tells it how long to run. It's based on the preferences. Now that you've changed that preference (and updated to the project) it's going to use that for all of your WUs.

This can cause problems if you have a large number of WUs already on your machine, as it might take longer than the deadlines to crunch for the longer time. Hence the caution statement in my QA item on the subject. (which, unfortunately I happened to describe under a Q for modem users, since that's usually where people want the longer WUs).
