On this WU you get almost twice the normal credit: https://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/result.php?resultid=33986546

The only reason those anomalies "pop" out is because of the short WU run time - in one case you probably got a particulary complex model, and the other one aborted early because it didn't lead anywhere.

It's not a short run time for the WU(task) it's actually the default of 3hrs.

Another problem, I can't edit my prefs anymore, as some usersadvised I tried to set it from 1 to 4 hours, but after I pressed update nothing else happens then that my explorer shows a empty page.

I changed my preferences about five hours ago. I now get the blank page after clicking on Update Preferences.

I created a thread to collect WU with unusual credit granting. Please post those WU here.

I think I fixed the prefs issue. Give it a try now.

The new system isn't live yet. . . it's still using the old credits.

Edit: I was incorrect in this post, I hadn't checked my email. My apologies.

Maybe if the powers that be would give more warning to all of us, this wouldn't happen. Seems pretty pathetic that even the staff didn't know it was going live. What a great day for communications skills.

Been following it for a week almost, since the testing started. When I am getting 20% of past numbers and a Mac duel 2.5 GHz G5 w/5.5 gig ram gets 30% of what a Windows P4 3 GHz w/2 gig ram gets then something is wrong in a big way.

You are right and I even can tell you what: the compiler/optimization for G5 CPUs sucks. As it is at the moment G5-CPUs aren't utilized with their fully potential and return less models than comparable windows machines. It's similar to the situation over at Einstein, where Macs get very low credit as well, since they found many optimization for windows but only a few for Macs. However that just underlines that the credit system is working as intended, since it awards credits on the actual contribution. What a pity that Macs with the current application contribute so little. Perhaps you find a project in which Macs perform well (compared to windows boxes).

I thank you for looking into this and hope others do as well. I will not run any other DC project and will not run Rosetta while the client only uses 1 third of my power. When there is a client that matches that of the Windows client power for power I may return. I'm not mad just feel it is a waste of time to run as long and only do 1 third of the work.

Why do you think your G5 should be crunching faster.

MathematicaMark 5.2 which is a highly optimised maths program for each platfarom, with multiprocessor and 64bit support. Puts the 2proc. G5 2.5GHz (MacOSX 10.4.1 only 15% faster than a 1proc. Pentium4 2.5Ghz (WinXP). That's using 64 bits and both processors.
Not the 1proc Pentium 4 3.0GHz uder Linux was 34% faster than the P4 2.5GHz.
So if it's faster with 1 processor. And rosetta runs on singly on the processors then is not so good at the maths ;-)

The G5 seems to fall down with the matrix transpose in that benchmark.

So the G5 or not that powerful in comparision and it depends on the maths being done.

Don't forget Rosetta is not optimised to run on the Pentium4 either.

There are some amazing optomized applications (not BOINC clent) for SETI@home for the mac. They allow you to crunch about twice as fas as the stock client. The optomized applkications are here.

Thanks for trying to help but I left SETI because of their bad attitude towards the users. Rosetta is the only project I want to run because of the science and the people. I ran SETI first and had 42,282 Classic credits then they shut it down after that I ran SETI Boinc for 267,477.16 credits and tried Einstein and was not impressed after 8,458.52 credits. I have ran optimized clients for those other projects and know about them very well.

Please refrain from posting flamebait and let's try to get back to posting constructively in full sentences.
