I have two dual Itanium boxes and I'd really like to get them running Rosetta, is there any chance of getting IA64 support in the near future?

Unless you can compile and like delving into code or know anyone that is willing to help them (and continue to do so) then no I really doubt it. The gains from doing so are not worth the time and support to do it.

Well unless you can emulate x86 stabaly and use the x86 program....
There not even looking at improving the PPC/MacOS code now since the userbase is low and the move to the x86 platform.

There will probably be more chance of a GPU or XBOX client due to the larger platform usage.

Sorry.
(note: mine is in no way an official response)

The last statement I have readen, is that the project did not plan to port it to other platforms.
From my experiance, it is not hard and very time intensive to port it. I did not understand, why rosetta not port to the other platforms. The projects with the other platforms has a good throuhput with the different unix systems.
Mostly the unixes have fast CPUs and a lot of multi CPU systems, so the number of systems is not so high, but the throughput is great...

But, which IA64 OS do you have running ? - SETI and SIMAP has both binaries for IA64 on HPUX and Linux available.

I have stated in posts before that I have time and machines at my disposal and would do a couple of ports at least.. preferably IA64 and Alpha-AXP, but, nobody has bothered to contact me about it.

Don't bother with emulated code... the IA64 32 bit emulator is really slow. The 32 bit subcore on the AMD hammer chip is better, but, even that is pretty slow.. No, don't waste your time with 32 bit code on the IA64/AMD64 platforms. I have an Althlon-64 running Rosetta.. It claims more credit than it gets due to the slow core. I, also, have a Dell PE 7150 w/4 800mhz Itaniums... would love to run it... (It's got super floating point)... but... you know...

I have offered them help for porting, too. But the moderator awnsered that the would not get out the source, and the ports would not done by non rosetta employes.

You'll need to ask david baker about it direct probably and the license people.

and apparently these are the people to contact to see about getting the code, I guess say why, what for and how you would like to do it.

The Rosetta code is continuosly evolving and is used in other places then Rosetta@home. They have/had people looking into x64 and a straight compile does very little (apparently) and would need a decent re-write to take advantage of such AMD or Intel x64 instructions. That is no easy task, especially when coupled with trying to maintain the different branches.

They are running Debian Linux.
