There already is! Select the running job in BOINC Manager and hit 'Show Graphics'.

If you're running BOINC as a service then you need to do the following to see graphics:

Right-Click 'My Computer' > Manage > Services > Right-click 'BOINC' > Properties > Log-on

Choose 'Local System Account' and check 'Allow service to interact with desktop'
Done

I thought perhaps he uses Linux, there aren't any graphics, but he uses Windows..

Looks like (s)he's spammed every BOINC forum with a cut and paste message. Even if it's not appropriate, i.e. has graphics all ready or no real graphic function needed.

Not on Rosetta he isn't. He has several nice boxes but they are all Windows (click on his name next to his post, then follow the obvious links till you see a list of his boxes).

He is contributing to many projects:



and I'd put his huge cross-project cross-post down to enthusiasm rather than anything else.

And his ignorance may indicate a need for all projects to explain better about graphics in languages other than English, or at least have better links that we have at present to the translated BOINC pages.

Miquel: it is a good question and I hope you are delighted to find it has already been answered! Hope you stick around.

I never knew that and didn't even know I didn't know it.

By the way, if like me you are Win2k you need to do

Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Services

and then continue as Danny suggests.

Just looked at CPDN gfx for the first time today on a box where it really does have to run as a service :-)

(I've seen CPDN gfx on other boxes, but not that computer, but never thoght to ask about it) (and yes it does tell you how if you look on their website, but it is not obvious if you don't go looking for it)

Perhaps the installer could offer this as a fourth option and explain that this allows you to see the gfx?

They have been asked several times, but it opens up security probelms. Even Microsoft say you should never if at all possible a service that way. They say it's better to find a different way to do it, like seperate it from the service. I know they where looking at altering the way graphics work by splitting it apart, probably somthing to do with Simple GUI and maybe MacOS ideas as well. No idea what came of it though.

I'm always for user choice as well, unfortunatly 'boinc' are not (or Dr. Anderson). Though there is nothing to stop somebody making another installer with the options enabled (as they would say ;-)
