Message 2000 - Posted: 31 Oct 2005, 22:02:06 UTC

I recently signed up for Rosetta@home and got my first work unit yesterday. Everything downloaded fine except for the rosetta application itself. I keep getting the following error message:
31/10/2005 4:54:28 PM|rosetta@home|Temporarily failed download of rosetta_4.78_windows_intelx86.exe: error 500

I looked it up in the boinc wiki and found that it's a server error (A download failue after a Project was Off-Line a period of time to do maintainance, in this case we have a server error (500)). However, no matter how many times I reattach or reset the project, every time I try to download the application I get the same error. When I look at the server status page for rosetta, everything seems fine. Any suggestions?

Sorry...probably should have posted in the Questions and Answers section. My mistake.

Nope... perfect place to put it IMHO. I just don't have any clue of an answer.

The problem is that this is saying that the server cannot handle the request. And that is shown in the Wiki as an explanation of the Error Code (in the server section).

So, the server is telling him that it is having a severe error and dying in the midst of his request.

And Kathryn, you give me too much credit ... mostly I steal the stuff. I am a decent writer, but, figuring out many of these problems is well beyond me ... where it Tigher when I need him ... :) or Tony? ... HELP! :)

Just to update, it's now 2 days later and still the same error (02/11/2005 8:16:02 PM|rosetta@home|Temporarily failed download of rosetta_4.78_windows_intelx86.exe: error 500
). I'd really like to crunch for this project, so even if it requires me to delete all my boinc data or something I'm still willing to give it a try. Seems everybody's a little stumped for now though:P

They seem to be having server problems today. Most/many are not able to download new WUs

Here's a copy of mine [running Windows]:

http://www.planetspectre.com/files/rosetta_4.78_windows_intelx86.exe

I took it straight from my

c:program filesboincprojectsboinc.bakerlab.org_rosetta

folder. Try popping it into your similar folder and see what happens.

Hope this helps,
Spectre

Thanks for the suggestion but the application still remains in the transfer window and the workunit I received still continues to sit there idle. I guess that's not the answer:

Have you done a retry on that file transfer?

If yes, and no good, you could cancel (abort) the transfer of the .exe file, copy the file Spectra offered into the boinc.bakerlab.org_rosetta directory and see if it fires up.

EDIT: I wonder if you have some form of antivirus program that refuses the download of .exe files.

Well...I've tried turning off the firewall/antivirus before and it still didn't work (I use Zonealarm Security Suite by the way). I followed your suggestion of aborting the file transfer and putting the exe in the directory and now it says my work unit is 100% complete and ready to report. I don't quite know whether that means it works or doesn't, but I guess I'll wait for the next round of workunits and find out.

Well the application seems to work except I keep getting client errors on my workunits. I have a feeling that's unrelated though. Thanks for all your help guys
