About three days ago my BOINC ran out of work and hasn't been able to get more. The messages tend to be along the lines of Insufficient work, requesting more Deferring communication with project for X hrs, X min, and X seconds The second message is returned from both my projects. (Seti and Rosetta) Does anyone have any idea what's wrong, what I can do to find out what's wrong, and what I can do to resume computing? Thank you for your help, Chuck |

Insufficient work, requesting more Between these two lines are the ones with the error message or information message that tells you WHY it is deferring... so that's what we'd have to see. Best is to quit BOINC completely, then relaunch it, give it a minute, copy all messages from message tab, and paste in here. Then we can see everything from startup to "deferring". |

Thanks for your replies, gentlemen but I think that I may have solved the problem. Well, maybe not solved, but fixed it anyway. I had tried to access the OSX installation guide but for some reason wiki thought I was trying to modify it and wanted me to sign in. After perusing the rest of the extensive instructions and finding nothing helpful, I decided that a hobby shouldn't be tis complicated and deleted BOINC. I restored it when I was notified of your replies and wonder of wonders, it started downloading just fine. In fact, I think I may have even detected a new sense of urgency and eagerness in BOINC's calculations. Perhaps after this brush with oblivion it has realized just how easily it can be replaced by some generic screensaver and has decided to be more compliant. As for the messages, I tried to copy them but was unable to paste them into my post. Anyway, thanks for the help guys. If I have any more trouble, I'll be sure drop you a post. |

Red link - page that doesn't exist yet, click here to add it - and then "nope, you aren't authorized"... Here's hoping you stick around, and if you have any problems, step right up and ask! (Especially OS X, Paul and I are both Mac fans.) EDIT:: You can't replace BOINC with a "generic" screensaver... you HAVE to at least get the 3-D fish. |

Red links in the Wiki are the "placeholders" that we need to fill. Edit access is not required for doing anything but writing articles and the editor list is restricted. For any that need more of a reason I keep it restricted should have been watching the embarrassment in Wikipedia recently ... |
