Message 96992 - Posted: 31 May 2020, 13:02:21 UTC

Hi,
there is a project delay since yesterday. Both uploads and downloads don't work. Up to now I have twelve projects waiting for server-connection. Is there anything I can do?
Thank you.
Kind regards!

From the noises being made, it really doesn't look like an android fix is coming before deadlines.
I'd completed all my Rosetta tasks already, but I'm inclined to advise you join World Community Grid to run their Open Pandemics CV19 tasks and suspend/abort any Android Rosetta tasks you've still got.

It would have been nice if you had pushed that notice to the clients in case people wanted to make sure they had enough tasks queued. Because of the short-deadline problem, most of my machines are now idled.

The notice at the top of the thread is three years old and no longer relevant. This thread got bumped yesterday because of a new issue, which is discussed in more detail in several other more recent threads.

If you want to get your [Windows; I don’t know about other OSes] machines going again rather than wait for an updated BOINC client, please try the procedure in this post.

I just downloaded two of the 4.20. It seems OK, though the BOINC reporting is now strange.
It is hard to figure out what is going on with the new version.

Yes, a while ago I noticed my Android phone (running BOINC 7.4.53) had 3 Rosetta work units sat there for well over a week with transfers pending, all were deadline 2/6.
Task summary showed "uploading", but project summary showed repeated "Communication scheduled in ..... Transfers pending 3".
No problem with other projects on that device, nor with Rosetta or other projects on Linux and Windows 10 desktops or laptop.
Just on this Android (v8.1.0) device.

PS: although the tasks still show as awaiting upload, going to the Rosetta site I now see no tasks listed for that device (4462144).
Typing the long task names into the search shows.
"Unable to handle request. No such task: 14ffb8a64f5c34e1161bd6"
"Unable to handle request. No such task: Junior_HalfRoid_design6_cart_COVID-19_SAVE_ALL_OUT_IGNORE_THE_REST_1yz8fo4k_929581_34_0"

I'm seeing exactly the same thing. The last contacted listed for my Android device (3824869) was 5/31/20. It's been trying to upload results since then to no avail.

The device (a phone) has internet connectivity with all other sites I've tried and my two Windows machines, using the wi-fi, are having no issue.

Thank you.
I had checked that the store on the phone still only supported BOINC v7.4.53 (last updated 3 Jul 2016),
and browsing to the BOINC site from the phone detected the Android device type but also only offered 7.4.53.
So if the phone doesn't have a solution, and there seems no easy way to return completed units meanwhile, is it best to suspend the project to avoid wasting new downloads,
or to do nothing and expect the project to automatically not send new work until BOINC has been updated to a suitable version for the device?

That requires more programming and testing and that doesn't happen here at Rosetta, they have a sererate Project for that.

Rosetta is my primary project, so I always want to run it first, but even if you can grab tasks on later beta versions they don't run and certainly don't return successfully, so reluctantly I have to agree until a new Boinc Android version (not the current betas) finally solve the problem.

I hope someone will shout up when that finally comes to pass.

My backup project, WCGrid, runs Covid19 tasks in their Open Pandemics sub-project. I'm running that now (very badly)
