I hear thats its possibe, or a least been spoken about, that number crunching such as this would be well suited to a modern graphics card and its highly parallel nature. Anyone know if this is a likely way for BOINC to go? All that extra power just sitting there..... |

It is probably going to come eventually. It will be up to the projects to implement most likely since graphics cards do not have the same standards as CPUs. It will also likely require a PCIx card, for the bandwith to and from main memory. BOINC WIKI BOINCing since 2002/12/8 |

It also may have to be swapped out if you are actually doing anything graphically intensive. BOINC WIKI BOINCing since 2002/12/8 |

About this topic: ClawHMMER Stanford is developing software (as we know) to offload FLOP calculations to the video card. In summary, the new ATI GPU takes ~71 seconds to complete the amount of work that it takes a Pentium 4 2.8 CPU ~1589 seconds to complete.
