Yep we saw Pauls words too and ?

That is a dirty trick Angus and I would prefer if you don`t try emotional blackmail where Paul is concerned. If YOU have something to say please do else... Back off, the man is not here to argue in his defence.

You obviously missed the point of the post altogether, in your rush to attack me.

This is a thread about forum changes. No change is a form of change. A decision based on the complexity of making changes needs to have input about that level of complexity, and the pitfalls surrounding making changes.

Paul's explanation of why forum changes are NOT a good idea is the clearest, most concise and cogent statement I could find, and I wanted to make sure that it is part of the record in this discussion. Rather than risk plagiarism accusations, I credited it to Paul.

Angus, I am quite annoyed that even though you saw Paul was suicidal you are asking me to disagree with him yet again as I will. O.k. line by line then...

One of the best improvements sometimes is to do nothing

That is seldom correct, in this case definately not.

So, we have one group advocating changes, and I, well, maybe I am alone, but I do not see significant problems that requires much surgery if any. Of all the changes the only one I am in favor of is to copy the layout of Einstein@Home.

The advocation of surgery or not is best left to the surgeon/Doctor not the porter !

One of the points to BOINC was to come up with a common baseline. We defeat that if every project customizes the system so that it is unrecognizable. Because WCG and SIMAP use phpBB *I* don't go there ... I find it too hard to find the new posts and the posts I would be interested in reading and commenting on. Color me however you like, but, I am just suggesting that if Rosetta@Home gets TOO inventive they too may lose some of us ...

The project neither revolves around Paul or me, so this is as much opinion as mine. The project is not Pauls and seeing how experienced crunchers found it extremely difficult to access GOOD information it suggests this forum WAS NOT doing it`s job.

Lastly, altering from the baseline means that the project has to maintain these alterations into the future, making changes to each new release of the baseline code and testing them to make sure that they work still. If that is not a relevant idea I don't know what is ...

I don`t know if changing the baseline is easy, I do know that David Baker and David Kim have not told me it`s impossible. Nor have I said it is necessary. I have howether seen a thread where Mr. Baker himself say`s money is not an object which say`s a coder is affordable in my language. If NASA had taken the line that Paul seem`s in saving every dime perhaps they`d never have got into space ?

Now Angus I sure hope you are satisfied because I know Paul will read this, I`m sure you do too but I wasn`t going to let you pull a stunt like that and get off scott free. So please join me in feeling the guilt I did already even though I still feel it doesn`t belong to me. Howether I`m human...I`m not so sure about Angus.

Not all Czech`s bounce but I`d like to try with Barbar ;-)

<bump> since posts moved to this thread do not reset the 'last post date:time counter' , hence sinking out of sight will occur.

This is a forum bug.

i for one am having a hard time grasping what is so difficult in making some organizational changes so information is easier to find. to me, most of the discussion on this is unnecessary and frankly making a mountain out of a molehill. the setup of the einstein @home board reinforces that. it shows that the boinc board can be customized to suit the users, and with as many more people visiting the rosetta site, there should be a proportionately larger number of distinct catagories (more than just 3!) to hold the sheeer volume of posts. as it is, there are 10 bags of questions 3 bags to hold them in.

also it's insulting to Dr.'s Baker and Kim along with the others that they aren't capable to make the changes, or to find the right person to make the changes, let alone without our input.
