When restarted computer on 7/26/2006 03:56:27:AM I received an error code 161 message from the Rosetta project, and the project was dumped. I received no messages telling me it was going to dumpted. The files just dissapeared. I received no new work from the Rosetta project. BOINC may be trying to finish the SETI project file on my computer. I have copied all the messages that may be relative to what is causing the problem. Please excuse the long message as I tried to get all messages related to the problem before I send the message. It is now: 7-26-2006-WED.-@04:23:04. Rosetta has not asked for new work, or tried to update the project. MESSAGES FOLLOW WITH AREA NOTES ADDED. The messages beloe may indicate a bug in the BOINC, or in the projects that I am trying to run. All other active security, and diagnostic programs normally running on my computer are running OK. It looks like a memory access problem, the stderr output looks messy : resultid=28605965 <core_client_version>5.5.6</core_client_version> [CDATA[ *snip* </stderr_txt> ]]> Probably a pointer error as this "CDATA" stuff is an internal of the compiled program, not part of the working data |

Error code 161 is due to an "inconsistent client state". Is it possible that the "clientstate.xml" file was corrupted? Could have been a crash, defragmenter running while boinc was running, etc? |

A damaged client_state.xml would be the worst case reason but usually it isn't that bad. People over at CPDN love this -161 as it happens way too often there. -161 is a catch-all file transfer error. If the project client states that there should be a final result but one or some of the result files are missing, it will issue a -161 Usually the -161 itself is not the real cause of a problem, it just follows an error that has nothing to do with the file transfer at all, a problem in the project client that has not been caught properly. Maybe it would help to set "Leave applications in memory while preempted". With 1GB RAM and only one CPU that shouldn't be a problem. Another thing to check would be the virus scanner setting. It can cause problems if the BOINC directory is not excluded from the scan. The benchmark (which ran immediately before the crash) can affect a result in some very rare cases too, so if it happens everytime together with a benchmark, moving the next benchmark into the far future might help. _____________________ I wonder why the result disappeared, it wasn't that old. Maybe the file system where BOINC has its database cache is full. |

A damaged client_state.xml would be the worst case reason but usually it isn't that bad. Thanks for your assist. First) Leaving the application in memory while preempted: I have the setting as same. Second) The reference to Anti-Virus: I do regular scans, but do them when no other program is running that is memory intense. The program sets defaults automatically as per the program operation. Third) As to the disappearing file. I haven't the foggiest idea as why the file disappeared. Thank You. |
