BOINC/Rosetta seems to spend most of its time running the message "BOINC is currently suspended" across the screen, rather than actually doing anything useful. I am running on a Macbook Pro and also an old iMac, and get the same thing on both. Os X, 10.3.9 or 10.4.8. Any ideas? P. |

The buttons on the left side of the "Projects" tab can sometimes confuse. Check to make sure that when rosetta is highlighted in this tab, the second button down says "Suspend". If it says "Resume" then click this button and that should fix the problem. Since you've been around a while, I'll assume that this isn't the problem. Could you write back with a little more information? Does this only happen whe the screen saver kicks in? Do you have other projects running that do not have this problem? Anything else that you've noticed? Does the Activity Monitor utility show anything happening on the cpu? In the mean time, I'll think about other possibilities and check back. |

Oh. Also, check to see if your preferences allow work to be done while the computer is in use. If not, it might be that your computer simply hasn't been idle for long enough when you look at it and Rosetta hasn't started back up. Both of your computers are returning good results, so they are obviously crunching Rosetta some of the time. The MacBook is returning about 3 hours worth of work every 3 hours or so. The other machine is showing similar results but it looks like it is sometimes powered off for long periods? |

Thanks for the replies! I'll have a look at what you suggest. My main Q is - what does "BOINC is currently suspended" mean? In what circumstances would it show that message? Why not just start up the app straight away? P. |

Thanks for the replies! "BOINC is currently suspended" simply means that the application is currently not crunching any work. This could result from a few siuations: 1)If you have clicked on the button I mentioned earlier, one of your projects might be suspended (i.e. not doing any work). I don't think this is the case because your machines are still returning work. It would also tell you that a specific project is suspended rather than saying BOINC. 2)If you set your preferences to not do any work while the computer is in use, then it won't. BOINC is suspended until the machine is no longer in use. I suspect this is what you're seeing. To fix/change: go to your general preferences in your account (you might have to log in). Check to see that the second question (Do work while computer is in use?) is set to "yes". If it is set to "no", then you can change the setting by clicking "edit preferences". If you don't want to fiddle with your settings, I think your machines are alright. They seem to be returning the amount of work that they should be returning, so the only benefit of changing your preferences would be that you would be able to see the graphics showing your computer at work. |
