Since the new version of 30 Jan 2007 was automatically downloaded and installed I have been unable to obtain new work, either automatically or by atempting to "Update". I am running seti@home with equal priority to Rosetta, but that has been working well since last September.

What happened and how do I fix it?

Using 2.4 Ghz P4 CPU, Windows XP HOme, and Rosetta 5.45 for Intel X86.

I have the same problem, I have not recived a new work unit from Rosetta since probably Cheistmas as well. SETI is still coming in just fine, and I was processing Rosetta work units as well until a few months ago, but for some reason they are no longer being sent to me.

Please tell us more about your settings in Rosetta@home preferences

and your Resource share for SETI.

What does BOINC say in the messages when you tell it to connect to Rosetta?

Can you post some of the lines?

Resource share:100
Disc space:12.54Megs (though I did set it so it can use up to 100M.)
SETI share 100: I have set it up to be a 50/50 split.

At BOINC startup the only reference is this:

under Projects it then shows "comunications defered" and it stops there, nothing gets up/downloaded. It just makes a connection and stops.

Seems to be working now, what a strange piece of code to add in my opinion. I wonder why they would put something in that would eventually make you wait 3-5 years to get new work units? Anyways the important part is that is seems to be downloading units for processing again, thanks!

The BOINC scheduler has a number of conflicting goals. It wants to meet project deadlines, may not have a predictable internet connection, may not have a predictable amount of time that PC will be powered on, etc. etc.

When a deadline gets close, BOINC will divert crunch time that would normally be scheduled for another project, to the one that has an approaching deadline. Hopefully it then completes that task prior to the deadline and gets it reported. Then AFTER that, BOINC makes up the time to the other projects that were not getting CPU time while working on the first project. So it depends how long it took to crunch through the work and relieve the pressure of the deadline. If it took a few hours, then you probably don't notice when BOINC makes up the time to the other projects. If it takes a few days, then you do. Sometimes several work units all have a near deadline and so a few days is possible.

When the message says "Note: not requesting new work or reporting results", it means that BOINC is planning to spend enough time working on the other projects, that it doesn't feel it will be getting back to Rosetta for some time. So, it doesn't pull down work... doing so might just lead to a pressing deadline situation again.
