I've been getting this error for a couple of months now and its starting to get annoying. Every once in a while (maybe a few times a week) a get this "Connection Failed" error. If a just exit out of BOINC manager and start it up again its fine, but it might set there for half a day before a check my computer again.

Full error (comes in a popup):

BOINC Manager - Connection Failed

BOINC Manager is not able to connect to a BOINC client.
Would you like to try to connect again?

I see from your reported tasks that you are still running BOINC 5.4.8. I believe you will find this problem is resolved in the current BOINC download.

Please review your General Preferences when you upgrade. There are many preferences which will now take effect with the new BOINC version. They now indicate the release that begins using each setting.

Since you have 2 CPUs, and 512MB of memory, you will want to especially consider your memory settings. Just leave the defaults if you just want carefree operation. But if you want to be crunching 24/7 and not have tasks waiting for memory, then be sure your memory settings reflect that.
