I'm a noob with this stuff, but everyone wants the cool screensaver to work, right? I am running BOINC on Vista Business (64 Bit Edition) and everything is working perfectly except the screensaver. When I select the "BOINC" screensaver among the choices of Vista default screensavers, the little preview that shows up is actually a crystal clear shot of my current desktop! When I attempt to do a full screen preview of the BOINC screensaver, the button does nothing. If I apply the selection (BOINC) and let the computer go idle for the selected period, nothing happens, the screens just stay on until eventually my hardware/power settings shut them off. Is this a 64bit/32bit "not playing nice" issue? I removed EVERYTHING and did a clean install twice, each time when I visited the BOINC download page it correctly identified my OS and offered me the 64bit Win version of BOINC. The only other variable I can think of is that I do run dual monitors... but other Microsoft included screensavers aren't affected. I'll check that one tonight, but is anyone else having this problem or find a work around? |

Part of your confusion seems to be that there really isn't a preview for the BOINC screensaver. This is because what you will actually see when it is used depends upon which BOINC project is crunching at that time. The other part of the confusion seems to be the way it does not display after the expected idle time. Do you run BOINC while your machine is active? If not, compare the number of minutes you've got set for BOINC to wait before it runs, with the number of minutes you've got set for your PC to kick in the screensaver. If BOINC's delay is longer then Windows, then I would think it won't be able to show the screensaver until a BOINC application is actively running. Rosetta Moderator: Mod.Sense |

The screensaver will not work on vista. Look for a fix in the 6.x.x line of clients. BOINC WIKI BOINCing since 2002/12/8 |

Thanks... I did something similar to test it... Finally I found the following entry in a BOINC log file: 12:47:01 AM: Error: Execution of command '"C:Windowsboinc.scr" /t' failed (error 740: the requested operation requires elevation.) This is obviously a problem. Is there a screensaver in the Linux versions? I'll probably compile from source... Thanks |

May I post my "need help" in this thread. I installed Vista Ultimate 64bit in a separate sata drive in my Quad core box. It is running fine. I install the Boinc Manager. It is running and showing a screen without projects. I try to attach a project. It is telling I am not currently connected to a boinc client. How can I attach a rosetta project? I need help. Thank you, joseps I turned off my 5computers when I went on vacation. When I return today, I can not upload work. Need work units to run computers. joseps |
