The existing promo video for Rosetta@home is great, but it is about 2 years old, and there have been, I feel, quite magnificent advancements in the project.

Do the people affiliated with this project feel that a new promo video would be justified? Are the advances significant enough to merit a new video? But on the other hand, it could also be a very specific type of video, maybe focusing on the implications of, let's say, the ability to use computational design to create novel enzymes.

Being able to point out concrete utility out of this project gives people, including me, huge motivational boost to crunch even more.

What do you think?

This is an excellent idea of course! but we are swamped now preparing for CASP8. I wonder if rosetta@home participants could put together an updated promo video--this might be more effective than anything we could do (and no doubt there would be far fewer "ums", etc!).

I think someone with expertise on making promotional stuff and/or ads could consider making a video. Unfortunately I don't have that expertise, so I don't consider myself a candidate.

I went to school for audio/video production, but I am nolonger active in that field. Some suggestions on this process of a new video.

There needs to a be a rough outline provided by the team or Dr. Baker on what they would like the video to say. Perhaps in less technical terms than the first video.

Something like:
I) Intro - what is RAH - a DC program for folding protiens (related to various diseseas and future medications etc) at a atomic level.
II) Explain protien folding very breifly and in simple terms
III) Explain that to calculate all the possible combinations on a super computer would cost serious money and still not complete as many models as the total number of home computers that are sitting at home idling.
IIIa) Use a graphic to show the how the current amount of computers using RAH compare to a super computer ability to crunch the same amount of data.
IV) Show what the final result is after a certain protien project results have been compiled. Use something that the most basic layman would understand.
IVa) Then explain how what we crunch gets applied into the regular world
V or before) Explain how the Howard Hughes and Bill Gates project work with RAH and how their projects being crunched on RAH can improve the quality of life.

That is a video outline that I would find interesting, maybe not in that particular order but at least those topics. I wouldn't really use CASP at all, since that is more of a scientific expermental computing, but then that might be of interest to the super cruncher types. So kind of a before and after video with a touch of simple language technical in the middle. Graphics sell better than interviews. So graphics and a script reader and a few short sound bites from Dr. Baker and others. Maybe put this same thing out as a powerpoint presentation as well.

Sounds fine to me.

Now we need a producer and script writer to put my rough outline into working form. Can anyone do that?

Also, can someone on the RAH team look the outline over and then think of what they might say to the sections I have put in that look specifically at RAH?
Perhaps when there is a bit of time they could put together a sound bite script as such about what they are thinking they want to say.

RAH team - it would be nice to get some screen shots of the end result of our computations when you put a final model together. Again something that is easily known to a lay person.

Other people - I would think some still shots of a main frame system or a super computer system's cpu racks and then if someone could find a good graphic of cluster computing or distributed computing and post the link here, then we have a bit of material. Also some screen shots or video of RAH doing its thing on our home system.

Then there is a need for someone to do a voice over and someone to do the editing.

Think any of you reading this can fill these roles?
