hi, just wanted to offer my services to build an intel-mac version of the rosetta software. i've been trying to get a native boinc going (and have succeeded there), but the client donwloads fail, and i'm not sure why. my guess is that there may be an endianness not handled correctly by either rosetta (ppc->x86 dynamic code conversion) or rosetta (your app). either way, i'd be interested in assisting with the x86/osx build. i've got a developer box, and happy to assist. if interested, please contact me offline: rpk@blue-newt.com - thanks! bob |

Bob, have you tried apps from other projects, and if so, do they work? SETI of course is open-source, with lots of x86 optimizing going on, so it would be especially nice to see if something like Harold Naparst's Linux crunchers could be compiled to work. I lost my Mac job (and my G5 dual! sob!) shortly before Steve's Intel announcement, so I don't have a dev box to play with. Any info you can give on how it works with any of the BOINC projects would be very welcome. In particular, you say that rosetta is being called on to convert Rosetta, so I assume BOINC is downloading the PPC (Darwin) version of the application. Was this automatic or did you have to tweak BOINC to convince it to ignore the CPU type? Will there be much change needed in the BOINC Client to get it to deal correctly with Intel-Mac applications when they're available, yet still get PPC apps before then? Urg, there are so many questions... |
