Message 5442 - Posted: 7 Dec 2005, 21:52:59 UTC

Yesterday I joined Rosetta@Home, got one work unit which was finished and sent back. Nothing since. A best I can tell the Rosetta servers are up and dishing out work, so I figure I must have something set up incorrectly (although I have been running SETI on the same BOINC installation for over a week). Any ideas or information would be appreciated.

What does the messages tab show? I found I once had to tell BOINC to connect even tho' it appeared connected. Once it tried to reconnect, it scheduled a download and has worked fine since.

Cuervo, the most common problem, for all projects, is the firewall configuration. Your firewall must allow boincmgr.exe and boinc.exe.

If you will open BOINC Manager, click on the Projects tab, click on the line for the Project, and click on the pushbutton Update, it should connect to the project. You can verify what happened by clicking on the Messages tab.

If you still have a problem, post the name of your firewall.

My firewall is Zonealarm Pro, boinc.exe & boincmgr.exe both have full access.

When I attempt to update Rosetta, these messages are displayed:

12/8/2005 10:47:42 AM|rosetta@home|Sending scheduler request to https://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta_cgi/cgi
12/8/2005 10:47:42 AM|rosetta@home|Reason: Requested by user
12/8/2005 10:47:42 AM|rosetta@home|Note: not requesting new work or reporting results
12/8/2005 10:47:47 AM|rosetta@home|Scheduler request to https://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta_cgi/cgi succeeded

No new work presented itself. Rosetta is sharing BOINC with SETI, which is having its own problems right now, but I'm pretty sure they're not related.

The line I bolded means that Rosetta doesn't need any work at the moment. THis is BOINCs way of trying to honor your resource share (over the long term). It could also mean that Rosetta has built up a long term debt and cpu time is owed to other projects.

All is normal and well.

cuervo, one other thought - if you have work from SETI stuck in "downloading" state, it can interfere with getting work from other projects. Just "suspend" SETI for a couple of days until they get their issues worked out...

Also, the "Cafe" is more a free-for-all place to chat and gossip than it is a help area. You'll get faster response to any problems over in Number Crunching. Normally. Although 5 min in cafe may be a new record.

And love the screenname.. make mine a Tradicionale. :-)
